THE RIDGE

The Ridge, a retail high street set to be located within the Stellenbosch region establishes an urban retail design language rooted in the ecological specificity, a combination of single and two level retail and F&B units merge with an arise from the prioritising landscape. The use of pale limestone volumes with bronze-framed deep-set windows, flat geometric rooflines, and a formal drought-tolerant soft landscaping ornamental grasses, and preserved mature trees.

The design concept confirms the design intent consisting of solid walls anchoring a composition softened entirely by planting, shade, and the texture of natural stone. Together, the two approaches define a coherent regional urban retail typology, architecture that earns its place in an arid landscape not through spectacle, but through material honesty, climatic responsiveness, and the careful framing of outdoor space as an extension of the retail and F&B areas.
